About
ALO Ísland is a non-profit organization based in Reykjavík, dedicated to community learning and promoting social connection. We aim to empower individuals and communities through education, access to information, and creating opportunities.
Our story began in 2014 at the Viltu Business? conference, organized together with ProjektPolska.is in collaboration with Bryndís Jónatansdóttir, Innovation Center Iceland, Vinnumálastofnun, and local entrepreneurs. The following year, ALO Ísland has registered as a non-profit organisation (félagasamtök) with the aim of creating projects and events.
In 2016 and 2023, we received grants from Reykjavík City to support our initiative. In 2023, we launched a multilingual poetry event series RVK Poetics (with the support of Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature), and began the adult education project Story-sharing for Social Change (co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union).
